Black Bear Safely Relocated from North Sheridan to Bighorn Mountains

On July 4, 2025, a black bear was reported along North Sheridan Pathway near Canfield Street, prompting a swift but unsuccessful search by the Wyoming Game and Fish Department.

The bear resurfaced the next afternoon in north Sheridan, spotted near 12th Street and Taylor Avenue, investigating backyards with chickens nearby.

Officials quickly responded and safely immobilized the young female bear around 5 p.m.

After confirming the bear’s good health and absence of problematic habits, wildlife teams released her in a remote area of the Bighorn Mountains the next morning.

Sheridan Wildlife Biologist Eric Maichak credited rapid reporting from residents for the bear’s safe relocation.

Residents are urged to secure garbage, feeders, and backyard livestock, as recent weeks have seen more bears drawn into neighborhoods by food sources.
